The Dutch (Knowledge) Network Seniors Fall Prevention (KNVS) is a (self-organizing) network of professionals with a shared passion for the subject fall prevention in the target seniors (people aged 55 years and older). It was established in 2003 under an initiative of EMGO Institute / VUmc, Consumer Safety and ZonMw.
Target group
Every professional who, in practice, science and policy, engaged in (an aspect of) preventing falls among seniors and to strengthen en share their own knowledge with colleagues beyond their own profession before.
Vision
Fall prevention is served by prolonged and intensive cooperation between different parties from practice, science and policy.
Mission
The KNVS's mission is to promote prevention of incidents by the creation of the link between practice, science and policy concerning fall prevention.
Activities /Key tasks
It stimulates KNVS experience and knowledge by:
- Organize thematic events
- Organizing field presentations
- Organizing conferences / congresses
- Maintain an interactive website with this:
- News
- Member profile
- Database of literature and practical examples
The KNVS facilitates:
- sharing knowledge, best practices and learned lessons
- develop tools, methods, checklists or new services
- solving problems
- working together to promote development of questions and to avoid duplication and repetition of mistakes
- developing professional knowledge and skills
Objectives
- To coordinate, integrate and promote the knowledge in the areas of fall prevention for seniors.
- A bridge between research and practice through knowledge.
- Encouraging the exchange of scientific knowledge and experience and best practice between researchers and practitioners in the field of fall prevention for seniors
- Providing an interactive platform for organizations who are sharing there knowledge and experience. Organizations are helping to address falling accidents to improve fall prevention and structural challenges.
